At three miles long, two miles across and 535 feet deep, the Hull Rust Mahoning Mine is the largest open pit iron ore mine in the entire world. Visitors to the strip mining site can enter the observation building to view mining vehicles at work and even occasionally experience the raw power of a real dynamite explosion. The building also has displays on mining and a massive mining truck that can be boarded. The mine is located northwest of the town, past the Greyhound Bus Museum and Hibbing Municipal Golf Course.
